The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the latest Hunger Games instalment, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Major Return to Panem
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, as the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth film in the global Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The film welcomes several prominent actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons is playing Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes will appear as a earlier incarnation of the calculating President Snow.
