Tetris Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a significant awards ceremony nears, there’s always a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession in the world of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute one unified medium.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often compact experiences, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games globally and have been for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
